The religion. Judaism is the religion of the Israelites. Judaism is one of the oldest religions that still exist today. It began as the religion of the small nation of the Jews. Through thousands of years of suffering, persecution and dispersion. Judaism continues to be practiced. Today, 14 million people identify themselves as Jewish. Modern Jewish is a complex phenomenon that incorporates both a nation and a religion, and often combines strict adherence to the laws and rituals with a more liberal attitude toward religious beliefs.

The language. Hebrew is the official language for the Israelites.
Throughout the world, wherever the Israelites had lived, they always had a
different spoken or written language between them from the non-Jews around them. Their language has differed by as little as a few embedded Hebrew words or by as much as a highly
variant grammar. There has been a lot of research devoted to a number of other Jewish languages, including Yiddish, Judeo-Spanish, Judeo-Arabic, Judeo-Italian,
Jewish English, and Jewish Neo-Aramaic. Also, Hebrew was the language of the
Torah (the Jews holy book).

Artist’s Statement: The numerical value of the letters in the Hebrew word "Simcha" - "joy" is 36. In this painting I depict human positions that express joy, using the forms that those letters allow. I used Indian ink to facilitate the hand movement as we see in Chinese art. The result is 36 figures with bones full of joy.

Mixed media acrylic and ink on stretched canvas.
Artist’s Statement: Psalm 51 is one of the penitential psalms that King David set to music.
All psalms praise the L-rd. They have remained popular readings throughout the ages because King David's themes were universal. He expressed the burden of humanity in his sacred testimonies.
Psalm 51, one of the most famous psalms, speaks of repentance and recovery. This image is an expression of the desire to have one's words of praise reach Adonai through authentic intention of kavanah.
